As part of ANZCCJ's ongoing Real Assets Series, we are pleased to invite members and guests to join us on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 for an executive forum exploring one of the most significant investment and infrastructure opportunities shaping the Australia-Japan economic relationship: Digital Infrastructure.
Driven by the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, hyperscale data storage and digital connectivity, demand for digital infrastructure is accelerating at an unprecedented pace across both Australia and Japan. Data centres, fibre networks, energy infrastructure and digital connectivity assets are increasingly being recognised as critical national infrastructure, underpinning economic growth, technological innovation and national competitiveness.
Australia's abundant renewable energy resources, stable investment environment and growing pipeline of hyperscale developments complement Japan's technological leadership, institutional capital and long history of infrastructure investment. Together, Australia and Japan have a unique opportunity to combine Australian resources, development capability and renewable energy with Japanese technology, institutional capital and long-term investment expertise to support the next generation of AI-enabled digital infrastructure across the Indo-Pacific.
Realising this opportunity, however, will require more than capital alone. Securing reliable power, navigating planning and regulatory frameworks, developing skilled workforces, financing increasingly complex projects and delivering infrastructure at scale are reshaping how digital infrastructure assets are planned, developed and operated.
This forum brings together leading developers, operators, investors, financiers and advisers from Australia and Japan to examine how the two countries can work together to accelerate investment across the digital infrastructure value chain. Through practical case studies and market insights, speakers will explore the commercial, technical and policy considerations shaping the next generation of AI, hyperscale and data centre investment.
As artificial intelligence accelerates demand for digital infrastructure worldwide, this forum provides a timely opportunity to better understand the market dynamics, investment opportunities and strategic partnerships that will shape the next phase of Australia-Japan collaboration.

Australia and Japan have long shared one of the region's most significant strategic and investment partnerships. As critical minerals become increasingly important to the global energy transition, Japanese investors, financiers and government stakeholders continue to play a pivotal role in supporting exploration, project development, processing, downstream investment and strategic offtake arrangements across Australia's critical minerals sector.
Against a backdrop of evolving regulation, geopolitical considerations and increasing capital requirements, investors are navigating a rapidly changing landscape while balancing security of supply, regulatory risk and long-term value creation.
The ANZCCJ Sustainability Committee - in partnership with Ashurst Perkins Coie - are pleased to invite you to an exclusive roundtable bringing together a select group of senior commercial and legal professionals leading Australia-Japan critical minerals transactions for a candid discussion on the legal, regulatory and commercial issues shaping Japanese investment into Australia's critical minerals sector.
The discussion will focus on issues including:
- The outlook for Japanese investment in Australia's critical minerals sector.
- Evolving investment structures, including minority investments, joint ventures, strategic alliances and integrated offtake arrangements.
- FIRB, national interest and national security considerations in critical minerals investment.
- Government policy developments in Australia, Japan and other key jurisdictions influencing investment decisions.
- Access to tenure, project approvals and development pathways.
- First Nations partnerships and community engagement as drivers of project certainty and long-term value creation.
- ESG, sustainability and supply chain considerations influencing investment decisions.
- Funding strategies for capital-intensive projects, including project finance and government support.
- Lessons from recent Australia–Japan critical minerals transactions and strategic partnerships.
Ashurst Perkins Coie will chair the discussion, drawing on the collective experience of participants to explore practical approaches, emerging market trends and lessons from recent projects and transactions. Rather than formal presentations, the session will be highly interactive, encouraging an open exchange of perspectives among peers.
Limited to a small group, the session is designed to encourage an open exchange of perspectives among peers in a confidential setting. As places are limited, we encourage you to confirm your attendance at your earliest convenience.
We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a timely and engaging discussion.

For more than fifty years, Australia and Japan have built one of the Indo-Pacific's most important energy partnerships. As both countries pursue ambitious decarbonisation and energy security objectives, the focus is rapidly shifting from policy ambition to project delivery, investment and commercial execution.
The ANZCCJ Sustainability Committee, in partnership with Ashurst Perkins Coie, ANZ, and Endgame Analytics, invites members and guests to Powering the Next 50 Years: Australia, Japan & the Future of Energy Security on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, at the Conrad Tokyo.
Bringing together senior leaders from government, industry, finance and academia, the discussion will examine where the next generation of Australia–Japan energy opportunities are emerging, the barriers to commercial deployment, and how both countries can work together to finance, build and scale the infrastructure needed to deliver long-term energy security, industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation.
Drawing on recent research from the Net Zero Institute, speakers will explore the concept of an Asia-Pacific Super Energy Highway - a proposed network of renewable electricity, hydrogen, critical minerals and low-emissions industrial supply chains connecting Australia with the broader region - and what it could mean for future investment and regional energy markets.
Discussion topics include:
- The future of the Australia–Japan energy partnership in a decarbonising world
- The Asia-Pacific Super Energy Highway and its implications for regional energy markets
- Renewable electricity exports, HVDC transmission and new cross-border energy links

- Critical minerals, supply chain resilience and industrial competitiveness
- Certification frameworks, carbon accounting and standards harmonisation
- Financing large-scale energy infrastructure and attracting long-term capital

As part of ANZCCJ's ongoing Australian Real Assets series, we are pleased to invite members and guests to join us on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 for our next instalment - this time turning the lens squarely on Australia's commercial real estate sector, with a deep dive into the office and industrial markets.
While residential and Build-to-Rent have dominated recent conversations, Australia's office and industrial sectors are presenting some of the most compelling risk-adjusted opportunities for Japanese institutional capital today. Prime office assets in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are seeing a decisive flight to quality, with vacancy bifurcation creating attractive entry points. Meanwhile, Australia’s industrial and logistics sector remains underpinned by constrained supply, limited infill land and resilient occupier demand, creating a compelling entry point where assets acquired below replacement cost are positioned to capture a renewed cycle of rental growth and value creation.
The session brings together Australia's leading real estate developers, fund managers, financiers, and advisors to provide a frank, investor-focused assessment of both sectors - covering market dynamics, financing structures, legal frameworks, and the trusted local partnerships that have underpinned successful Japanese capital deployment to date.
This is a must-attend event for Japanese institutional investors, financiers, developers, and advisors looking to understand where the real opportunities lie in Australia's commercial real estate markets in 2026 and beyond.
